Why would they take away the dislike button? It gives people a way to show their feelings about the video. The thumbs down also helps them figure out what content is not liked.

In reality, what Youtube is doing is not showing how many dislikes a video has but is still keeping the actual dislike button. People can still give feedback by using the like and dislike buttons to show their feelings towards videos, and the content creator of the video will still be able to see how many dislikes there are for their video.

YouTube might think it is better not to publicize the number of dislikes on a video it might make people feel bad or lead them to want to leave more likes than dislikes. They also think that this will protect their video creators from harassment and reduce the threat of dislike attacks. In these attacks, a group tries to get many dislikes on a video.

You can now see YouTube videos with an X amount of likes but no count of dislikes.
