Is It Bad That The Thing That Drives Me Nuts But Increases Sales?

Someone\’s ear is about to start wringing and I don’t even know who they are.

As marketers, we are always looking for ways to be better at our job. We look for new tricks and tips that can boost conversion rates on our sites.

Gimme a second to decompress…

Deep breaths…

Okay, here’s what happened.

I get an email with a subject that sounded good. The email says \”go look at the product.\”

So, I click it. I am trying to read the sales page. I really want to read the sales page but he, whoever this guy is…

… WON’T LET ME READ THE SALES PAGE!

I am his most promising prospect.

In the email, he offered me a benefit. I want it.

He wanted me to open this email. He wanted me to click on the link he sent me.

…but the result was I want to turn off my computer.

Why?

Because there are pop-ups that come every two seconds,

EMILY BLOW JUST BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT!

JACK JUST BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT!

GRAND MASTER JUST BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT!

PENNY WISE JUST BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT!

Sigh.

I closed the page and came here to write you this note.

It is great when your product is flying off the shelf. But it might not be good to keep people from reading what you have for them.

Plus, I don\’t know if he is really making all those sales. I mean Penny Wise the clown from the movie \”IT\” just bought the product 😆 😂 .

There is about one sale every two or three seconds, and that does not seem likely, right?

But here\’s where I advise you not to take my advice.

(Wait… let me think about that for a moment.)

Those super-annoying pop-ups that tell you everyone and their brother, mother, and neighbor are buying the product…

(I don\’t want to admit that I hate to admit this.)

…Actually, there will be an increase in sales because of this..

Yup.

I am the exception to the rule.

People are inherently influenced by what others do. It\’s the herd mentality, which is hardwired into us for survival reasons.

Consumers notice that others are purchasing the goods and so they too purchase it. I\’ve seen sales launches where there was a significant increase in people buying at the opening bell. This is typical behavior for a successful launch. The first day and the last day are typically when people buy, with sales dropping off dramatically during the middle of the month.

But when these annoying sales notifications are introduced on the second day, sales rebound almost immediately. Instead of delaying their purchase decision, more visitors to the page buy right then and there rather than later.

You can get the software to do this or just use the Builderall Social Proof pop-up. But, Please, however, keep the notifications to a minimum. The objective is to gently notify prospects that others are purchasing the goods.

You\’ll lose sales to individuals who don\’t have the time to put up with the interruption if the pop-up keeps stopping them from reading the letter.
